MFT660Q Assessing and Treating Substance Abuse/Dependency (1 cr.)

Prerequisite(s): MFT605 MFT620  

Pre/Co-requisite: MFT615  
Families often identify one member and one member only who requires assessment, treatment and therapy for substance abuse/dependency. This course addresses the recovery process as a family system collaborative.

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:

  1. Recognize various efficacy models for assessment and treatment.
  2. Identify a process to accurately assess all family members.
  3. Recognize the impact of mental health issues and substance abuse/dependency on family systems.
  4. Develop a therapeutic response to familial substance abuse/dependency.
  5. Create a process of familial engagement.
