MFT660X Working with Later Life Families: Aging from a Family Perspective (1 cr.)Prerequisite(s): MFT605 , MFT620
Pre/Co-requisite: MFT615 This course studies the intersection of family and gerontology. Intragenerational and intergenerational family relationship lenses are used to create a realistic and practical view of elders and their family systems.
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:
- Identify common myths and facts about aging and family ties.
- Describe common decision-making issues and transitions facing later life families.
- Explain intergenerational family relationships issues.
- Explain intragenerational family relationships issues.
- Describe potential limitations of later life families, including potential sources of conflict.
- Apply life-course theory and family genograms to understanding later life families.
