MFT660M Family Therapy with Families with Disabilities (1 cr.)Prerequisite(s): MFT605 , MFT620
Pre/Co-requisite: MFT615 This course presents an overview of disabilities and defines how a disability can impact the overall family system, typical family functioning, and the family life cycle. Family and professional partnerships that are more effective, strength-focused, and empowering to the families are introduced.
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate a basic understanding and overall awareness of disabilities.
- Understand how disabilities impact and change the family systems and disrupt the typical family life cycle.
- Identify skills that are needed to support and collaborate with families with a disability.
- Understand how to utilize a strength –based perspective in working with a family with a disability.
- Identify resources that are available to assist individuals with a disability and their families.
