EDUC598 Research Project (3 cr.)


This course introduces the student to the fundamentals of designing and conducting educational research.  Each student conducts a literature review on a research topic of special interest and designs an action research proposal. Students are expected to present and defend their research. This project is the culminating activity leading to the M.A. in Teaching degree. 

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:

  1. Analyze educational research for type, purpose, and validity/reliability.
  2. Select a literature review topic.
  3. Formulate a research question.
  4. Review literature on a selected topic.
  5. Synthesize literature into a coherent line of argumentation.
  6. Create a comprehensive literature review.
  7. Consider participants and ethics in research design.
  8. Design a proposal for data collection with at least three tools to collect data
  9. Create a plan to accurately analyze data.
  10. Make hypothetical conclusions from possible data collected.
  11. Write the action research proposal in correct APA style, demonstrating professional writing skills.
  12. Present and defend the proposal in an oral setting using visual aids.
