E180 Mystery and Detective Fiction

3 credit(s)
This course is designed to engage students with the popular genre of mystery and detective fiction and film from its “classic” age to the present. With a particular focus on the ways in which mystery stories confront culturally driven fears and play with the notion of knowledge, students will identify common conventions and themes, read texts closely and critically, and consider how the interpretation of literature contributes to a deeper understanding of language and culture. Prerequisite: E120  or E120 /E220  placement.
