AC400 Advanced Accounting (3 cr.)Prerequisite(s): AC305 This course examines advanced accounting problems, theory, and financial statement presentations. Topics include consolidations, business combinations, governmental and nonprofit reporting, partnership accounting, and foreign exchange transactions.
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:
- Value and record business combinations.
- Prepare and analyze consolidated financial statements including international transactions with foreign currency exchange.
- Recognize the differences between governmental, non-profit, and for-profit financial statement reporting.
- Recognize the differences between US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and international accounting standards.
- Apply accounting valuation methods to financial transactions.
- Evaluate partnership accounting and how to allocate profit and loss according to the partnership agreement.
- Assess the role of the accountant in estates and trusts.
- Identify basic bankruptcy accounting procedures and transactions.
- Evaluate usefulness and limitations of advanced accounting topics.
- Analyze various types of computer software and relate the importance to the consolidation process.
