H315 The Wars in Korea and Vietnam3 credit(s) This course will investigate these two major wars in contemporary times in the context of the Cold War. The wars in Korea and Vietnam entailed intersecting dimensions of anti-colonialism, communist expansion, civil war, and great power rivalry. Rather than focus only on American foreign policy and combat, this course will situate the wars within a broader international perspective. In addition to the various political factions within Korea and Vietnam, we will look at the interests and actions of China, the Soviet Union, Japan, France, USA, and others. There are no prerequisites for this course.
