N250 Introduction to Professional Nursing3 credit(s) This course provides an overview of nursing and the role of the professional nurse as a provider of patient centered care, member of the healthcare team, patient safety advocate, coordinator of care, and member of a profession.
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:

Discuss historical events and the development of nursing.

Describe ethical and legal concepts relevant to the practice of professional nursing.

Evaluate the role of the nurse as a member of the interdisciplinary team.

Discuss the importance of key concepts in nursing including philosophy in nursing education, research, and practice nursing theory, caring, and holism.

Identify the importance of professional writing, scholarship, and membership to professional nursing association

Discuss the nursing role as a patient advocate.
