A landscape consists of geographic features (or landforms) that characterize a particular area. From an ecological perspective a landscape is a spatially heterogeneous area of interacting ecosystems at varying scales. Ecosystems are communities of biotic and abiotic factors that together form a physical environment. This course explores an integrated approach of studying a landscape and its ecosystems, with emphasis placed on watersheds. A watershed is a hydrologically-defined landscape commonly applied in resource management planning for environmental and societal benefits. Thus, topics will include biotic and abiotic processes, hydrology, elements of scale, land use and watershed management. Prerequisites: B216 and B221
