EDU528 Elementary Methods 1, ELA and Social Studies (3 cr.)

Prerequisite(s): EDU 514 , EDU 517
This course is designed to help pre-service teachers develop knowledge, methods, and evaluative tools to become competent in teaching English Language Arts and integrated social studies and children’s literature in kindergarten through eighth grade. Students learn how to plan integrated social studies and ELA lessons, to choose from a range of effective teaching techniques, and to evaluate student learning using the Minnesota performance assessment model (social studies content standards for primary, intermediate, and middle school). Topics include lesson and unit planning, the Minnesota content standards, national standards, questioning skills, and sample activities in each strand of social studies and English Language Arts.
