EDS726 Continuous Improvement for Learning (3 cr.)Prerequisite(s): EDS725 This course explores the core work of leading flourishing school communities including the components of student assessment and program evaluation. Candidates are introduced to various assessments and types of data that can be used to determine school success and areas for improvement. Effective staff development, supervision of instruction and programs, and collaborative curriculum development are also explored. The value of building communities of professional practice is studied as a key component in the development of a continuous school improvement model.
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:

Interpret and communicate the results of data-based assessment and program evaluation to different constituencies within a flourishing school community.

Evaluate various components of the curriculum development process that promote the dignity of all learners, including team-building, data analysis, vertical and horizontal alignment, material selection, implementation, and on-going assessment.

Understand theories of adult learning so that school leaders are prepared to provide effective professional development, including the value of communities of professional practice.

Articulate the need for fidelity to the implementation of evidence based instructional practices and intervention models.

Identify the characteristics of effective instructional leaders and learn to guide instructors to build these skills in a flourishing school community.

Identify the qualities of change and cultivate the skills that leaders need to support people moving through organizational change.
