EDD802 Leadership in Practice (3 cr.)


This course focuses on applied theories of leadership behavior and current academic research on leadership, in addition to a critical exploration of one’s own capacity for leadership. It surveys the concepts of leadership effectiveness; leaders as change agents and leaders as servants. The role of leadership in organizational communication, culture empowerment, and conflict resolution are analyzed.

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:

  1. Assess one’s leadership capacity, including strengths, limitations, and areas for growth, in relation to established leadership frameworks.

  2. Analyze and evaluate leadership theories and their relevance to contemporary organizational contexts.

  3. Evaluate the role of ethics in leadership theories and organizational decision making.

  4. Analyze how leadership practices influence organizational culture, communication, and conflict dynamics.

  5. Critically analyze leadership research and apply evidence-based insights to one’s own leadership practice.
