EDD809 Scholarly Writing & Inquiry (3 cr.)


This course establishes the intellectual foundations of doctoral inquiry through disciplined scholarly writing and problem framing. Students identify and refine a problem of practice grounded in their professional context and situate it within relevant theoretical, empirical, and systems-based literature. Emphasis is placed on advanced scholarly writing, APA style, ethical use of writing technologies, analytical synthesis, and the development of a coherent literature review to support research design and applied dissertation or capstone work. 

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Define and refine a problem of practice grounded in organizational or educational context.

  2. Synthesize and critically evaluate relevant research literature to construct a coherent scholarly, literature review aligned with a defined research focus. 

  3. Demonstrate advanced scholarly writing, including analytical precision, coherence, and adherence to APA and academic conventions.

  4. Apply principles of ethical scholarship and professional accountability in the framing and representation of research.
