IT303 Database Management (3 cr.)Prerequisite(s): IT200 or equivalent This course focuses on managing organizational data, database design, and retrieving data from a relational database. Data modeling and data retrieval skills-building are emphasized. Concepts related to the responsible management of data and database management systems are also examined.
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:
- Extract data requirements from a business scenario and express them in a data model diagram.
- Describe the process for transitioning a logical data model to a physical database design.
- Articulate the objectives of data management, data architecture, and data governance and describe how these practices work together to promote data availability, data integrity, and data security.
- Explain structured query language (SQL) component capabilities and application.
- Interpret database structure diagrams for retrieving data.
- Write database queries that retrieve the information required to meet specified information needs.
