EDS787 Cultural Competency/ Critical Pedagogy (3 cr.)

In this course, students will explore the interlocking components of cultural competence.  The course focuses on the need for educators to adapt to diversity and recognize the cultural contexts of communities they serve.

Upon completion of this course students will be able to:  

1. Discover, identify, and work to mitigate barriers to cultural competence. (PO 1,2,3,4)

2. Understand what it means to be a culturally competent person and have the capacity to value and adapt to diversity, and manage the dynamics of difference. (PO 1,2,3,4)

3. Facilitate conversations that drive social change within their institution, helping educators build skills to interact effectively with a diversity of people in different contexts. (PO 1,4,5)
