Physician assistant programs are degree programs. Most schools with physician assistant programs have only graduate degree programs, so students planning to enter a physician assistant school should plan to complete a bachelor’s degree in biology pre-physician assistant studies at Saint Mary’s University. Prerequisite courses for graduate physician assistant programs are available at Saint Mary’s.
Graduate school physician assistant programs have open admissions policies. Admissions are on a competitive basis with applicants being evaluated on academic achievement and potential as a physician assistant, scores on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), clinical experience with a physician assistant, and patient contact hours.
Coordination of the student’s program with that of the school with a physician assistant program to which the student intends to apply is strongly recommended.
