Program Description
The field of Data Engineering enables data-driven decision making by collecting, transforming, and publishing data. A data engineer should be able to design, build, operationalize, secure, and monitor data processing systems with a particular emphasis on security and compliance; scalability and efficiency; reliability and fidelity; and flexibility and portability. A data engineer should also be able to leverage, deploy, and work with generalized machine learning models. The role of a data engineer may include a) designing data processing systems, b) building and operationalizing data processing systems, c) operationalizing machine learning models, and d) ensuring solution quality. This certificate is for students with an interest in data analytics, data science, and technology. This certificate gives students skills to utilize new sources of data, use unstructured data and/or automate processes, as well as gain experience with planning and design.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the certificte, students are expected to be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate proficiency in data collection, data engineering, and database administration.
- Develop custom applications and scripts for visualization and analytics.
- Communicate with clarity and coherence.
- Evaluate ethical and legal implications of decision making.
