The English Major: Writing Track emphasizes critical, creative, and professional writing. The Writing Track engages students in literary and cultural discourse and collaborative work across fields of knowledge, and prepares them to apply their liberal arts education to a variety of post-graduation careers and personal interests. The courses in the major offer students opportunities to explore different forms of writing including creative writing (poetry and short fiction), professional and technical communication, public writing (grant writing, public policy, etc.), essay writing (memoir, narrative, etc.), and writing in various health, scientific, and environmental fields. The major prepares students for careers in publishing, technical writing, professional communication, public policy, business and public relations, non-profit work, and the arts. It is also excellent preparation for graduate or professional programs in law, rhetoric and composition, library and information science, and media and communications.
