The B.A. in Music Industry is designed to prepare students for ever-increasing career opportunities through hands on, real-world experiences that recognize the traditions of the liberal arts. Students in the Music Industry program share a common core of music courses that reflect the needs of musicians in today’s constantly evolving world of technology. All Music Industry students have full access to Studio ‘S’ – Saint Mary’s state-of-the-art recording and post-production facility. Students who earn their B.A. degree in four years have the best of both worlds – unparalleled access to a professional recording studio with a well-rounded liberal arts education.
The Music Production Track is geared towards students interested in today’s wide range of audio production careers. The Music Production Track focuses on studio recording skills as well as live audio production. Many of the courses are taught in Studio ‘S’ where students work with state-of-the-art hardware and software on projects with external clients. Brett Huus, who serves as faculty for many of the upper division classes, is a multi-Grammy award winner for his post-production work.
In addition to their on-campus experiences, all Music Production Track students participate in one or more off-campus internships. In the past 30 years, the Music Industry program has placed interns at sites including Universal Music Group, Minnesota Public Radio, Elektra Asylum Records, KNXR Studios, SoundStrations Studios, NorthCoast Studios, Waysound Studios, and many others.
For over 30 years, students who graduate from the Music Industry program have gone on to successful careers from operating their own recording studios to working for international music publishers … and everything in between.
