2022-2023 Winona Undergraduate Catalog [ARCHIVED CATALOG]
English Major: Literature Track, B.A.
|
|
(40-45 credits)
The English Major: Literature Track offers students a representative study of British and American literature, other literatures written in English, and world literatures in translation. It provides students the opportunity to engage with complex texts, develop skills in both synthetic and analytical thinking, and cultivate sensitivity to the cultural contexts that inform diverse perspectives. The courses in the major expose students to a variety of literary conversations and genres, helping them to develop versatile interpretive and interpersonal skills. An emphasis on transferable skills in research and critical thinking prepares students for careers that require the analysis, organization, and communication of complex information. The Literature track is also excellent preparation for graduate or professional programs in English, education, law, journalism, and business.
NOTE: Students pursuing teaching licensure in Communication Arts and Literature must complete both the Secondary Education Major; BA and the English Major: Literature Track, and are also required to take COM111 Introduction to Mass Communication to meet licensure requirements.
