Social Work, M.S.W. and Addiction Studies Graduate Certificate


Program Structure and Delivery


Both the Addiction Studies (ADS) courses and the Master of Social Work (MSW) courses are provided in a remote delivery format. While the MSW courses are mostly asynchronous with minimal synchronous requirements, the ADS courses require weekly synchronous participation.

Degree Requirements


For students completing the Social Work, M.S.W. and Addiction Studies Certificate simultaneously:

Option 1: Social Work - M.S.W. with Traditional Standing & Addiction Studies Graduate Certificate:

Generalist Social Work Courses and Practicum Experience 30 cr.
Clinical Social Work Specialization Courses 18 cr.
ADS Required Courses 6 cr.
Joint MSW/ADS Practicum Experience 6 cr.
Total 60 cr.

Option 2: Social Work - M.S.W. with Advanced Standing Program & Addiction Studies Graduate Certificate:

Clinical Social Work Specialization Courses  21 cr.
ADS Required Courses 6 cr.
Joint MSW/ADS Practicum Experience 6 cr.
Total 62 cr.

Option 1: Social Work - M.S.W. with Traditional Standing & Addiction Studies Graduate Certificate


Joint MSW/ADS Clinical Practicum Experience 6 cr.


The student completes a supervised practicum experience in a social work setting that also provides substance disorder treatment. Students dually enrolled in MSW and ADS programs register for the following sequence of practicum courses, consisting of a minimum of 880 hours across two semesters. For those who need an additional semester to complete 880 hours, ADS715 is available. 

Option 2: Social Work - M.S.W. with Advanced Standing Program & Addiction Studies Graduate Certificate


Joint MSW/ADS Clinical Practicum Experience 6 cr.


The student completes a supervised practicum experience in a social work setting that also provides substance disorder treatment.
