MFT660T Working with Returning Military Personnel and Their Families from a Systemic Perspective (1 cr.)

Prerequisite(s): MFT605 MFT620  

Pre/Co-requisite: MFT615  
This course examines the therapeutic issues and skills that are needed to work with returning military personnel from the Middle East. The unique aspects of the reentry process for military personnel and their families are addressed. Emphasis is placed on the relationship issues that soldiers and their families face when re-integrating into their communities. Best educational and therapeutic practice models and current literature and research are reviewed and discussed.

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:

  1. Identify the unique issues currently facing military personnel returning from service in the Middle East.
  2. Differentiate between the “normal” process of re-integration and clinical issues that require therapeutic interventions.
  3. Recognize the most common couple and family issues that are presented with re-integration
  4. Identify common clinical issues for returning veterans and their families.
  5. Integrate best practice models of effective interventions/therapies with returning military population and their families.
  6. Recognize the impact of military re-integration upon the community.
