MFT660W Separating and Divorcing Couples (1 cr.)Prerequisite(s): MFT605 , MFT620
Pre/Co-requisite: MFT615 This course explores the issues faced by marriage and family therapists working with couples of separation and divorce. The course examines the personal, professional, ethical, and spiritual dilemmas that a therapist faces when working with these couples, and offers resources and practical strategies.
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate a basic overview and understanding of the dynamics of separation and divorce within couples and families.
- Recognize and design therapeutic interventions to help couples navigate the decision-making and relationship traits of separation and divorce.
- Describe and analyze issues of ethics, diversity, and religious and cultural factors that a therapist must navigate while working with separation and divorce.
- Identify strategies for coping with self-of-therapist issues which may arise while working with separation and divorce.
