RA570 Advanced GIS (3 cr.)

Prerequisite(s): RA554 , RA660 
This course builds upon RA554  and emphasizes spatial analysis, modeling, and advanced presentation techniques. Substantial effort is directed towards developing proficiency with raster cell analysis as well as integration of analyses utilizing both vector and raster elements simultaneously. Advanced presentation techniques involving 3-D modeling, analytical view shading, and more are included. Emphasis is on the ArcGIS 8.x ArcMap environment.

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:

  1. Apply knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts of spatial data analysis demonstrating critical thinking skills.
  2. Understand basic & advanced GIS analysis techniques.
  3. Develop expertise in spatial database design/management & basic GIS customization.
  4. Exercise critical thinking skills with regards to computer-mapping concepts & applications.
  5. Create and utilize maps and figures.
  6. Apply problem-solving approaches utilizing multiple GIS mechanisms.
  7. Understand productive and ethical working and learning environments.
