GN380 Environment and Energy (3 cr.)


This course examines the positive and negative impact of human activity on the natural environment, with a focus on the use of energy. Consideration is given to a variety of energy sources, affordability and environmental impact, as well as analysis of energy and environmental issues portrayed through the media. The curriculum explores issues from a variety of perspectives.

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:

  1. Describe benefits and liabilities of a variety of energy sources.
  2. Understand the ecology of both natural and built environments.
  3. Evaluate, locally and globally, how human activities have impacted the earth’s natural environment.
  4. Outline strategies of conservation that maintain or restore natural environment.
  5. Analyze the positions on energy and environmental issues presented by stakeholders through today’s media.
