MFT646 Practicum Preparation and Professionalization (2 cr.)

Prerequisite(s): /Co-requisites: MFT615 , MFT619  
In this course students will focus on the personal and professional aspects of preparing themselves to seek, apply, interview, secure, and begin a clinical practicum placement working with the public.  Emphases of the class will include ethical use of self, basic counseling skills, professional presentation, familiarizing themselves with practicum resources and expectations.

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:

  1. Prepare a professional portfolio including resume, letters of references, and cover letter for practicum experience.
  2. Develop an appropriate list of practicum placements for application.
  3. Articulate appropriate professional development goals for practicum and their individual development.
  4. Demonstrate basic clinical counseling skills.
  5. Demonstrate professional dispositional readiness to enter practicum and work with the public.
