PY729 Advanced Career Counseling (1 cr.)Prerequisite(s): PY604 This course builds on the 2-credit Career Counseling: Theory and Practice (PY 604) course that provides a comprehensive overview of the history and theories of career development as well as an introduction to the procedures used in career development and lifestyle counseling. This course focuses on the critical analysis and application of the empirical and theoretical foundations of career development and lifestyle counseling.
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:
- Apply the major theories of career development to career development with specific populations.
- Evaluate the strengths and limitations of major career development theories.
- Apply scientific evidence and theoretical frameworks to the development of a career counseling/development intervention.
- Demonstrate understanding of the sociocultural contexts that influence career development, career decision-making and life planning.
