The above special methods courses are designed to provide pre-service teachers with additional work on knowledge and skills addressed in the general methods courses. Additional experience is afforded for applying methods and teaching strategies particularly to the specific content domain in which the pre-service teacher is being certified.
This course addresses curriculum, skills, and knowledge needed to teach mathematics in grades 5-12. Topics studied include, but are not limited to, national and state mathematics content standards for middle and high school, lesson and unit planning, best practices, and evaluation procedures. Classroom management, effective teaching strategies, utilization of technology, diverse learners, and assessment to guide instruction are stressed.
