MPY605 Developmental Psychology (3 cr.)

Prerequisite(s): Pre/CoRequisite MPY600  
This course reviews research and theories of development, growth, and change across the lifespan. Physical, cognitive, affective, and sociocultural factors impacting development are explored. The elements of professional writing are applied.

Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:

  1. Compare and contrast different theories of individual development throughout the lifespan.
  2. Explain stage models of physiological and psychological growth and change throughout the lifespan.
  3. Describe the variable spectrum of normative development across the lifespan and evaluate how physical, neurological, and psychological factors impact development and functioning.
  4. Analyze the effects of family, social, and cultural factors upon the individual’s development.
  5. Apply academic research and writing to support constructs of development.
