EDD805 Ethical Leadership (3 cr.)

Prerequisite(s): EDD809  
This course focuses on developing an awareness of the major ethical positions and critically examining the foundational ethical theories and decision-making processes throughout history. Various ethical theories, with a particular emphasis on virtue ethics, are examined in relation to contemporary examples of the ethical challenges faced by leadership. The course seeks to enable individuals to reflect on their personal ethical stances and to analyze and critique ethical issues related to a variety of leadership contexts and situations.

Upon completion of the course, students are expected to be able to do the following:

  1. Critically evaluate major ethical theories in contemporary leadership contexts.

  2. Differentiate cultural norms, personal values, organizational policies, and ethical principles in decision-making.

  3. Apply ethical decision-making frameworks to complex leadership dilemmas.

  4. Synthesize personal and professional ethics into a coherent leadership philosophy.

  5. Analyze the role of ethics in leadership practice, organizational culture, and stakeholder outcomes.
