EDD822 Qualitative Research Design and Methods (3 cr.)Prerequisite(s): EDD809 , EDD814 , EDD821 This course examines qualitative research design and methods, including qualitative paradigms, methodologies, and approaches to data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Students explore the design and implementation of qualitative studies aligned with problems of practice, as well as the use of basic technological tools to support qualitative analysis. Emphasis is placed on rigor, trustworthiness, researcher positionality, and ethical considerations in qualitative inquiry..
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to be able to do the following:

Critically evaluate qualitative research paradigms and methodologies for application to research problems.

Design a qualitative research study aligned with a clearly defined problem, purpose, and research questions.

Select and justify qualitative sampling strategies and participant criteria appropriate to the study design.

Develop qualitative data collection instruments that support credible and trustworthy data.

Apply qualitative data analysis techniques, including coding and thematic development.

Apply principles of rigor and ethical research practice, including trustworthiness, researcher positionality, and IRB requirements.
