EDD840 Doctoral Seminar: Creativity and Innovation (3 cr.)

Prerequisite(s): EDD809 , EDD821
This seminar examines creativity and innovation as dynamic processes within individuals, organizations, and systems. Through scholarly dialogue, students analyze how innovation emerges, is constrained, and can be intentionally fostered across diverse contexts. The course emphasizes the application of creative and innovative thinking to leadership practice, organizational change, and problem-solving. Students also examine methods for assessing creativity and innovation and translating ideas into actionable strategies.

Seminar courses provide a collaborative learning environment in which students critically examine contemporary local and global issues through sustained scholarly dialogue and presentation. While course-specific structures may vary, all seminars emphasize critical inquiry, integration of theory and practice, and the co-construction of knowledge.

Upon completion of the course, students are expected to be able to do the following:

  1. Critically evaluate theories and models of creativity and innovation across individual, organizational, and societal contexts.

  2. Analyze conditions that foster or inhibit creativity and innovation in complex systems.

  3. Apply creativity and innovation frameworks to address contemporary local and global challenges.

  4. Design strategies to promote innovation within organizational or leadership contexts.

  5. Evaluate approaches to assessing creativity and innovation in practice and communicate insights through scholarly dialogue and presentation.
