The History Major: Social Studies Track is designed to serve students who seek certification to teach social studies in secondary schools and who therefore need an overview of the disciplines represented in the social sciences. Students pursuing licensure should simultaneously major in Secondary Education if they wish to meet certification requirements in 4 years; students can also major in History: Social Studies alone and pursue a master’s degree in teaching upon graduation. Licensure requirements are subject to change; therefore, students considering teaching in this area should be in continuous contact with the coordinator of this program and the School of Education for a list of required courses.
