Biology Major: Pre-Medical Imaging Track, B.A.


(60-110 credits)

The pre-Medical Imaging major is a four-year course of instruction designed to provide the student with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in biology pre-medical imaging with an emphasis in Echocardiography, Radiography, or Sonography.

Echocardiography emphasis

Saint Mary’s University is affiliated with the echocardiography training program at the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences. Prior to the 21-month internship, the student must complete the general education requirements as well as the pre-requisite courses listed below at Saint Mary’s University (approximately two years of coursework).  Acceptance to the clinical program at Mayo is contingent upon the student’s academic achievement. While completing the clinical program, the student will be enrolled at Saint Mary’s and will be required to pay a special course fee. Upon successful completion of the clinical program the student receives a certificate of completion from Mayo and is eligible to take the certification exam given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Radiography emphasis

Saint Mary’s University is affiliated with the radiography training program at the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences, Rochester, MN. Prior to the 21-month internship, the student must complete the general education requirements as well as the pre-requisite courses listed below at Saint Mary’s University (approximately two years of coursework).  Acceptance to the clinical program at Mayo is contingent upon the student’s academic achievement. While completing the clinical program, the student will be enrolled at Saint Mary’s and will be required to pay a special course fee. Upon successful completion of the clinical program, the student receives a certificate of completion from Mayo and is eligible to take the certification exam given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART).

 

Sonography emphasis

Saint Mary’s University is affiliated with the sonography training program at the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences, Rochester, MN. Prior to the 21-month internship, the student must complete the general education requirements as well as the pre-requisite courses listed below at Saint Mary’s University (approximately two years of coursework).  Acceptance to the clinical program at Mayo is contingent upon the student’s academic achievement. While completing the clinical program, the student will be enrolled at Saint Mary’s and will be required to pay a special course fee. Upon successful completion of the clinical program, the student receives a certificate of completion from Mayo and is eligible to take the certification exam given by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

  • Certification as a nursing assistant or alternative health care certification.

Please Note:


Clinical training experience is to be completed at an accredited and approved hospital program of echocardiograpy, radiography, or sonography over an eighteen to twenty one month period.  Saint Mary’s University is currently affiliated with the Echocardiography Program, the Radiography Program, and the Sonography Program at the Mayo School of Health Sciences, Rochester, MN.
