PYD807 Quantitative Research and Statistical Analysis (2 cr.)Prerequisite(s): PYD806 This course focuses on developing suitable research designs, selecting appropriate measures, and the appropriate analysis of data for conducting research in clinical practice. Development of the essential skills needed to comprehend, interpret, and critically evaluate published research in the field of counseling psychology and related fields is emphasized. Topics include theory and use of factorial ANOVA, factor analysis, correlation and regression analysis, theory and use of multiple regression, discriminant analysis, multivariate analysis of variance, structural equation models including path analysis, and selected nonparametric approaches.
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:
- Develop meaningful research questions and evaluate and select research methodologies which are appropriate to answer these questions.
- Analyze quantitative data using appropriate statistical procedures.
- Present and interpret the results of statistical analyses.
- Critically analyze research articles in professional psychology and related fields.
- Identify relevant ethical issues, and demonstrate competency in the application of the APA Code of Ethics with respect to research methods.
