EDMA650 Mental Health Awareness: Birth to 12th grade (3 cr.) This course examines the social and emotional development from birth to high school graduation. This course focuses on how mental health concerns present throughout the developmental stages of students. The impact of family, culture, stress, and trauma are also considered. Learners reflect on their own perspectives around mental health.
Upon completion of this course, learners are expected to be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate foundational knowledge about mental and emotional health in birth-12 students.
- Identify atypical student behavior.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of family, culture, stress, and trauma on student well-being.
- Reflect on one’s perspectives regarding mental health.
- Apply a holistic approach to understanding mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health.
