EDWN640 Leadership, Curriculum Development, and Supervision (3 cr.) This course provides a conceptual framework for effective instructional leadership, differentiated by administrator certification area, which focuses on the identification of program strengths and needs, professional development strategies for improvement, and program assessment that includes targeted student learning outcomes. Candidates will critically examine structures and values of current leadership models, practices and systems, and identify social change through innovative leadership vision.
Upon completion of the course, learners are expected to be able to do the following:

Identify personal leadership type and how that impacts student achievement.

Understand the importance of a healthy culture and climate in a district or organization.

Develop a deeper understanding of how evaluation impacts teaching and learning and the importance of strong leadership.

Create a comprehensive model for strategic planning or school improvement planning (SIP).

Develop a philosophy of education.

Apply administrative / school board policy and procedures.

Understand the various components of school safety.

Problem-solve an ethical dilemma using specific policies, procedures, and/or state statutes.

Reflect upon and self-evaluate personal strengths and areas of growth regarding administrator dispositions.
