CLPY605 Human Development and Flourishing (3 cr.)


This course provides an overview of developmental theories and research that cover the entire lifespan - conception to death, including transitions, strengths, and challenges that impact human growth, maturation, and flourishing. The course emphasizes moral and spiritual development models and research, integrated within a Catholic view of the human person.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to do the following:

  1. Compare and contrast different theories of individual development through the lifespan.
  2. Articulate the spectrum of human development across the lifespan from psychopathology to flourishing. 
  3. Explain the effects of family, social, cultural, and structural factors upon human growth, maturation, and flourishing.
  4. Integrate moral and spiritual developmental models with Catholic anthropology and established constructs of human development.
