CLPY610 Ethics (3 cr.) This course provides an overview of the American Psychological Association ethical code of as well as how to find, read, and interpret federal and state laws, policies, and regulations relevant to health service psychology. Students explore their own personal ethics and virtue formation in relation to the profession of clinical psychology. Students are exposed to diverse ethical challenges and dilemmas as well as corresponding ethical decision-making models for resolution.
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to do the following:
- Illustrate the professional ethical code for health service psychology, including the relevant principles and standards.
- Analyze ethical dilemmas encountered by professional counselors in a variety of professional settings.
- Apply the professional code of ethics in decision-making within a variety of professional settings.
- Formulate an evidence-based ethical decision-making model that addresses ethical dilemmas.
- Apply relevant state statutes and rules for the practice of health service psychology.
- Cultivate the integration of personal ethics and virtue into professional ethical decision-making.
- Demonstrate APA writing style and skills.
