CLPY625 Psychological Testing and Assessment (3 cr.)

The focus of this course is to prepare students to understand current theory and knowledge of psychometrics, including reliability, validity, and scale development techniques. Students learn to critically evaluate, select, and apply psychological tests and diverse assessment methods based on evidence-based practice guidance and a bio-psycho-social-spiritual framework.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to do the following:

  1. Articulate and apply statistical concepts fundamental to psychometric research and test development.
  2. Evaluate psychometric data of psychological tests to ascertain that instruments are reliable, valid, and culturally congruent for the anticipated clinical population.
  3. Appraise how to read and interpret assessment results that enhance conceptualization, diagnostic impressions, clinical decision-making, and treatment planning.
  4. Apply effective methods for the communication of assessment results and recommendations which respect client dignity and worth.
  5. Utilize a clinical interview and behavioral observations to assess a client’s presenting concerns, strengths, psychological symptoms, and functioning.
  6. Integrate the results of a clinical interview, collateral information, psychological tests, and behavioral observations into a written assessment report that includes a bio-psycho-social-spiritual understanding of the human person.
