CLPY635 Clinical Theories and Interventions Seminar (3 cr.)


This advanced seminar course focuses on evidence-based interventions that integrate relevant psychological theory, research, and cultural factors to a) establish an intervention plan with appropriate treatment goals, b) intervention outcomes, and d) an evaluation plan of treatment process, goals, and outcomes. The course highlights how health service psychology interventions can account for social determinants of health and expansion of intervention roles. Students learn application of and Catholic assumptions and beliefs of human nature within the Catholic Christian Meta Model of the Person.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to do the following:

  1. Compare and contrast the major theoretical approaches to clinical psychology. 
  2. Integrate theory, research, and cultural factors into treatment planning and process.
  3. Analyze the ongoing monitoring of treatment progress and to make adaptations to the treatment plan based on data obtained from monitoring efforts.
  4. Apply Catholic anthropology to clinical psychology within the Catholic Christian Meta Model of the Person.
