CLPY685 Practicum (3 cr.)Prerequisite(s): CLPY 600 CLPY 610 CLPY 615 CLPY 620 CLPY 625 CLPY 630 CLPY 635 Practicum is the first field placement in which students obtain clinical training with a site that is affiliated, but external to, the university. Students are enrolled in a group supervision class within the program to focus on assimilation into the clinical team and system, case conceptualization, ethical decision-making, and the development and demonstration of program competencies in clinical practice. Emphasis is placed on professional values, attitudes, and behaviors as students represent the program and university.
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to do the following:
- Integrate knowledge of counseling theories, assessment, research, and ethics into the practice of health service psychology.
- Elicit and integrate feedback from practicum site supervisor, practicum faculty, and peers regarding diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapeutic skills and interventions.
- Apply effective, proactive professional values, attitudes, and behaviors.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills and professional communication with site supervisor, practicum faculty, and peers.
- Identify gaps in knowledge and abilities and work to build expected profession-wide competencies.
- Demonstrate self awareness and practice cultural humility with clients and colleagues.
- Articulate importance of, and plan for, ongoing supervision and consultation throughout professional practice.
